Man cuts off his penis while drunk
A 36-year-old divorced man in Hanoi used a knife to cut off his own genitals after drinking alcohol.
The patient was brought to the hospital in a difficult to communicate state, showing signs of psychosis, genital amputation, and hematoma. The severed penis was not brought to the hospital.
The patient was married with two children, divorced. He had a history of alcoholic psychosis but had not been treated.
At first, the patient said he was bitten by a dog. However, based on the characteristics of the injury, medical history, and information from family members, doctors determined that the patient had amputated himself. Because the family could not find the severed part to bring to the hospital, surgery to reattach it was not possible. The patient underwent emergency surgery to remove the stump of the penis and bring the urethra to the skin.
After 5 days of treatment, the patient's condition is now stable.

The doctor can perform microsurgery to reattach the severed part, but the severed part needs to be properly preserved and brought to the hospital with the victim for timely treatment.
