People are suffering in the early summer heat.
(Baonghean.vn) -For the past two days, intense heat has been widespread, causing immense suffering to the people of Nghe An province. According to the forecast from the North Central Meteorological and Hydrological Station, this heatwave will continue for another 2-3 days.
At 1 PM on May 15th, Lenin Boulevard was deserted, with only a few cars and motorbikes passing by occasionally. The scorching sun made everyone reluctant to go out. On other streets like Truong Thi, Minh Khai, and Quang Trung, people were covering their faces with scarves, shirts, and masks, trying to speed up to avoid the intense heat.
In the garden area in front of Nghe An General Hospital, dozens of patients' relatives sat listlessly, dozing on stone benches around the pond. They fanned each other, trying to catch the breeze carrying moisture from the pond to cool down. Some covered their faces with hats, clutching their bags as they tried to snatch a few moments of sleep in the intense early summer sun. Ms. Lo Thi Nguyet, from the mountainous district of Tuong Duong, said that she and her daughter had brought her husband to the hospital three days ago, and the hot and humid weather had left both of them very tired. “After buying porridge for my husband, I and many other patients came to sit by this pond. It’s hot in my village too, but it’s much hotter in the city,” Ms. Nguyet confided.
Along the paths surrounding the lake in Nguyen Tat Thanh Park, people gathered at roadside tea and sugarcane juice stalls, some reclining on park benches to escape the heat. These were mostly people from other districts who had business in Vinh City. The weather was hot, so they came here to find shelter.
The early summer heat has turned people's lives upside down. On Nguyen Sy Sach Street, many motorbike taxi drivers and freelance workers are no longer thinking about finding customers, instead hanging hammocks on the trees along the northern canal bank. Those who work as porters gather in groups of five or seven to chat and play cards to kill time, knowing that they will certainly not find work in this scorching heat. They wait together until evening, when the weather is cooler, before cycling home. Mai Van Ninh and his wife, from Nghi Xuan district, Ha Tinh province, who work as rickshaw drivers transporting iron for kiosks on Le Nin Boulevard, said that during these two hot days, they have to take advantage of the early morning and late evening hours to transport iron to avoid the heat. In the heat, some people even carry buckets of water to pour on their vehicles before going to work…
According to Mr. Tang Van An, Head of the Forecasting Department at the North Central Region Meteorological and Hydrological Station, over the past two days, due to the influence of a developing and expanding low-pressure system from the west towards the southeast, combined with the Foehn effect, hot weather has occurred over a wide area in the southern part of the Northern Delta, and the northern and central provinces of Central Vietnam. Today (May 15th), the low-pressure system from the west continues to develop, making the heat even more intense.
The average temperature range measured in Nghe An over the past two days has been between 36 and 38 degrees Celsius. In Vinh City specifically, at 1 PM on May 15th, the temperature recorded inside the weather station was 38.9 degrees Celsius. “In reality, the difference between the outdoor temperature and the temperature inside the weather station is only 2-3 degrees Celsius. This afternoon, when the sun is at its peak, the temperature in Vinh City could reach over 40 degrees Celsius. The reason Vinh City is the hottest city in Nghe An province is due to the impact of urbanization and the fact that the surface area of Vinh City is more sunny than other areas,” explained Mr. Tang Van An.
According to forecasts, this heatwave will continue for another 2-3 days.
According to the Central Meteorological and Hydrological Center: Due to the influence of the southeastern edge of the hot low-pressure area in the West combined with the strong Foehn effect caused by the southwest wind, yesterday (May 14th) hot weather occurred over a wide area in the southern part of the Northern Delta, and the northern and central provinces of Central Vietnam, with the highest temperatures of the day generally ranging from 36 to 38 degrees Celsius.0C, some locations have temperatures above 38.0C like Hoa Binh: 38.90C; Lang: 38.1 degrees; Hoi Xuan: 38.2 degrees0C; Tuong Duong: 38.50C; Hue City: 38.30C…
Today (May 15th), the hot low-pressure area in the West continues to develop and expand towards the Southeast, bringing the heatwave to the entire Northern Delta and midland region, some areas in the western part of Northern Vietnam and the southern coastal areas of Central Vietnam, with maximum temperatures commonly reaching 36-38 degrees Celsius.0In some areas, intense heat with temperatures exceeding 39°C may occur.0C.
