(Baonghean.vn) - According to estimates, thousands of trucks carrying soil and rocks have recently invaded the Lam River section through Cua Rao 2 village, Xa Luong commune. The risk of changing the flow, causing landslides in some villages in the area is an obvious reality.
Since the end of 2015, some households in Cua Rao 2 village have hired trucks to carry soil and rocks at a price of 45,000 VND/truck to dump them on the riverbank to "prevent landslides" for their family's residence. However, in reality, this is an illegal expansion of the area. |
Mining and dumping activities take place right next to National Highway 7A, through Cua Rao 2 village, about 5km from Tuong Duong district center and only about 500m from Xa Luong commune committee. |
Ms. Tran Thi Ngoc Quynh, owner of a plot of land along Highway 7, in Cua Rao 2 village, said: "My family bought and dumped 150 truckloads of dirt into the river." In addition, there are 4-5 other households that are also hiring trucks to dump dirt and rocks into the riverbed. These households have dumped 400-500 truckloads of dirt. |
This activity risks altering the natural flow of the river. On the left bank is Thach Duong village, an area at risk of being affected by the dumping of rocks and soil and encroachment of the riverbed by people in Cua Rao 2 village. |
Soil was dug and transported from the leveling work to build houses for some households near the community forest of Cua Rao 2 village. |
The location for leveling the ground is next to the forest area for protecting and conserving clove trees - a rare timber tree species in the forests of Western Nghe An. |
Regarding the above mentioned issue of land reclamation and river encroachment, Mr. Kha Van Ot, Head of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Tuong Duong district, said that the Department has assigned the commune to resolve it. |
Mr. Luong Van Phan, Chairman of Xa Luong Commune People's Committee, said that the commune had asked people to stop illegally dumping soil into the riverbed, but these families did not comply. The commune has not yet determined the total area of land that has been leveled and encroached on the river, as well as the origin of this land. |
According to Nghe An Newspaper reporters, at the location of digging and exploiting land, some clove trees were knocked down. |
