Vinh City residents proactively open fire escapes and install safety nets to prevent fires.
Currently, landlords and apartment residents in Vinh City are opening fire exits and installing safety nets to prevent fire and explosion incidents.
Since the beginning of the year, many fires and explosions have occurred continuously throughout the country. In Nghe An, Vinh City is the locality with the largest number of high-rise apartments and boarding houses. However, fire safety in many buildings is still inadequate. The functional forces and local authorities have inspected, warned, and punished a number of boarding houses in Vinh City that violated fire prevention regulations.

According to the reporter's records, the fire prevention awareness of apartment residents and high-rise landlords has improved, especially after major fires that caused human casualties in Hanoi. In addition to equipping fire prevention equipment such as fire extinguishers, gas masks, and rope ladders, many establishments have opened emergency exits. This is considered the most optimal solution in case of fire or explosion.

Mr. Cao Van Long's boarding house is located on Nguyen Van Troi Street, Vinh City, has 6 floors with more than 20 rooms. Worried about a fire, especially during the hot season, Mr. Long contacted the local authorities to ask for an emergency exit.
Mr. Long shared: My previous boarding house was fenced off for fear of thieves breaking in and stealing tenants' belongings. However, when seeing consecutive fires and explosions, even I, the landlord, was very scared. Therefore, I decided to ask for an emergency exit at the back, and at the same time, instructed all tenants about this new emergency exit so that everyone could be proactive in case of an incident.

The boarding house of Mr. Cao Xuan Phuong's family on Bach Lieu Street, Ben Thuy Ward, has 6 floors with a total of 40 rooms. This is a boarding house that Vinh City police have inspected and warned about some fire prevention violations such as leaving vehicles in disarray and blocking the way. The windows on each floor have been welded shut with stainless steel... although there is actually an emergency exit, however, with a large number of rooms and a large number of people, Mr. Phuong's family has also opened a second emergency exit to increase the chance of escape if an incident occurs.
The family installed an iron escape staircase on the outside of the boarding house, about 30 meters long, straight from the 6th floor to the 1st floor, firmly welded to the wall, enough for 5-10 people to climb down to escape at the same time. Although the cost is quite high, the family is willing to pay because ensuring the safety of the lives and property of the tenants is the top priority.

Not only opening fire escapes, many apartment residents in Vinh City have now installed safety nets to prevent fires. Instead of being welded shut with iron cages like the common tiger cages, this type of net has many advantages, the most important of which is that people can cut this type of net to open an escape route in case of fire or explosion.
Mr. Nguyen Luc, a resident of the Trung Do Cooperative Apartment Building in Vinh City, said: Apartment balconies are often fenced off with iron or stainless steel bars by residents for fear that people or pets will fall out, preventing clothes, flower pots, and bird cages from falling to the ground.
However, such sealing would inadvertently block the only escape route if a fire broke out in the building. Therefore, I hired a worker to install a safety net, which is made of small, durable, sturdy wires that can be cut with pliers in case of an accident to escape.

Mr. Ngo Quoc Hung, a safety net installer in Vinh City, said: Since the consecutive fire and explosion incidents, many residents have contacted our team to install safety nets on apartment balconies. The price depends on the area of the balcony and the length of the wire used, usually each completed balcony costs from 1 to 2 million VND for labor and materials. This is a suitable price for many people. This type of net still ensures enough light to shine into the house, not completely covered like other types of iron cages.

According to the reporter's records, compared to the sealed tiger cages appearing in apartment buildings in Vinh City, safety nets are a new and highly feasible solution. This type of net is small, with a wire size of 0.3 - 0.5 cm, but has good durability, ensures urban aesthetics and most importantly, can be cut with specialized tools in case of fire or emergency situations to serve rescue work. Therefore, this type of net is increasingly chosen by apartment residents in Vinh City.
