(Baonghean.vn) - Quynh Di Ward, Hoang Mai Town (Nghe An) is a locality with a fairly large aquaculture area of 86 hectares. In previous years, people in Quynh Di Ward mainly used natural water sources from Con Canal into the canal system and then pumped into ponds to raise shrimp. However, due to water pollution and shrimp diseases, many households have had the initiative to drill wells to get water to raise shrimp.

People are building water filtration tanks from drilled wells to raise shrimp.

In early 2016, some shrimp farming households in Quynh Di ward researched and drilled wells, built filter tanks to get water into ponds for shrimp farming. Thanks to proper care and disease prevention according to the guidance of the Town's Agricultural Extension Station, in addition, using cleaner water sources has helped shrimp grow quickly, limiting diseases, achieving high productivity and output, the rate of shrimp raised from 90-100 days old reaching 50-70 shrimp/kg, many households earned hundreds of millions of dong in profit.

Mr. Nguyen Van Manh - Dong Trieu block, Quynh Di ward, a household drilling wells to raise shrimp, said: "I use underground water from the well system through a filter tank to raise shrimp. Well water ensures less salinity, clean water source without pollution, helping shrimp to develop and limit disease".

Actively treat ponds to prepare for new shrimp crop

After the first shrimp crop, Quynh Di people drilled wells, built filter tanks, took water, and treated ponds to prepare for releasing shrimp for the new crop.

According to people's experience, from draining all the water, treating the pond, drying it until pumping water into the pond and releasing shrimp larvae takes more than 20 days.

In this shrimp crop, people here do not use water from Con creek but mainly use underground water from a system of drilled wells that have been filtered through a filter tank. Each shrimp farming household drills 2-3 wells and installs pumps to pump water into the tank.

The well water is drilled at a depth of more than 30 meters and goes through a filtration process in a tank so the water is less polluted. The cost for each well is nearly 5 million VND.

Currently, in the whole Quynh Di ward, there are more than 86 hectares of shrimp ponds, currently 1/3 of the total area has been stocked with shrimp for the second crop. Ms. Le Thi Thuy Trang - an agricultural land officer of Quynh Di ward said, "Since the beginning of 2016, shrimp farmers have started drilling wells to get water for shrimp farming in the first crop. This is an underground water source and is filtered, so the water is clean, limiting the risk of disease caused by water pollution. Shrimp production in the ward is higher than in other areas."

Currently, people are continuing to invest in drilling wells to build filter tanks, at the same time treating ponds according to technical procedures, and stocking shrimp on time, promising a new shrimp crop with high productivity and economic efficiency.
