(Baonghean.vn) - Known as the "thirsty" land of Ky Son district, many villages in Muong Long commune are currently experiencing a water shortage. To have water for drinking and daily activities, many people have gone into the forest to dig holes in the rocks to scoop up water.

Long Keo Village (Muong Long Commune, Ky Son District) is one of the most water-scarce villages in the "capital of three-flower plums". The village has 65 households with 345 people, but up to now, only nearly half of the households have wells, the rest still have to use water from streams. Photo: Dao Tho

Mr. Va Ba Rong - Secretary of the Long Keo village Party Cell said: The thirsty season here usually lasts from the time before Tet until now. The hot weather and little rain have caused the streams to dry up. To have water for drinking and daily activities, many households have to take advantage of small water sources in the crevices of rocks. However, many water sources have dried up by this time, some other sources still have water but are very small, each time you can only get one to two 20-liter cans. Photo: Dao Tho

“Every day, my family has to use 3-4 cans of water for drinking and eating. We have to go get it when everyone is busy working, because if there are too many people, there won’t be enough water to get back. If this place is dry, we have to go to another place. It’s very hard,” said Mrs. Va Y Sua in Long Keo village. Photo: Dao Tho

At some other springs, according to our observations, the water was full but very dirty. However, many people still took the opportunity to go down here to bathe and wash clothes. "This spring is located much lower than the village, so many people tried to pull the electricity down to pump water but still could not pump it up" - Secretary of the Party Cell Va Ba Rong said. According to the locals, currently all healthy people have gone to work for companies, while at home there are mostly only the elderly and children. These are the people who suffer the most during the water shortage. Mr. Lau Ba Cho - Vice Chairman of Muong Long Commune People's Committee said: Currently, many families in Long Keo village have drilled wells for daily use. Previously, a water project was built in the village but the water was too weak to pump up to the tank. In the near future, to solve this problem, the government will promote a program to drill water for the people and use that tank as a water reserve. Photo: Dao Tho
