The daughter-in-law of Tan Huong village

In 1993, Ms. Ka Thi Nam (born in 1977) got married and moved to her husband's home in Thai Tan Huong village. They had two children, a son and a daughter. Life was difficult at that time because the family lacked arable land. In 2003, she discussed the matter with her husband and made a crucial decision: they sold their two buffaloes (their most valuable assets at the time) for 10 million dong and bought land from some neighbors to develop their economy. Having acquired the land, they struggled to figure out what crops would yield high returns. After a long period, they finally realized that the land here was suitable for growing tea. That was in 2007.

Thanks to hard work and diligence, Ms. Nam's family now owns 7 sao (approximately 0.7 hectares) of tea plantation. She shared: "This 7 sao tea garden yields two harvests every three months, each time producing about 1.5 tons. The current selling price is 4.2 million VND per ton." This means they earn over 12 million VND every three months. Seeing that there was still land available for cultivation, she learned from others and planted an additional 200 orange trees. Currently, with the remaining 2 sao of vacant land, she plans to grow grass for raising buffalo and cattle (her family currently raises 6 buffalo). Thanks to their stable economic development, Ms. Nam's family has been able to send two of their children to university. And, Ms. Nam's economic model serves as a model for other villagers in the area to follow...

The villagers of Tan Huong have grown increasingly fond of Ms. Nam because she enthusiastically participates in village activities: building new huts, planting tea, sharing experiences in caring for, harvesting, and selling products... She also dedicates time to the work of the Women's Association and the Farmers' Association of the village, and diligently researches high-yielding crops and livestock suitable for each land area and the working conditions of each household, helping villagers find ways to improve their livelihoods and escape poverty.

Speaking about Ms. Ka Thi Nam, the people of Tan Huong village unanimously agreed: "Ms. Nam is a capable businesswoman, eager to learn, kind-hearted, and enthusiastic in helping others, thus contributing to the strong unity within the village." For her achievements in labor and social activities in 2013, Ms. Ka Thi Nam received a commendation from the district and is one of two exemplary individuals representing the ethnic minority communities of Yen Khe commune at the upcoming Provincial Congress of Ethnic Minorities!
