Russian broadcaster Ksenia Sobchak announces run for Russian president |
"Russian Paris Hilton challenges Vladimir Putin in presidential elections", - writes the British newspaper Independent. According to the correspondent working for this edition, Ms. Sobchak's candidacy will be beneficial for the Kremlin because she has more opportunities to divide the opposition and draw votes from other opponents of Vladimir Putin.
The Guardian quoted analysts as saying that Ms Sobchak would liven up the presidential race because "Vladimir Putin's old rivals" had long since given up on a real contest with the president.
Ksenia Sobchak is a Russian TV star. Her decision to run in the presidential election is seen as offering a long-awaited alternative to those dissatisfied with Vladimir Putin. However, she has little chance of winning.
Russian presidential press secretary Vladimir Putin said that Kseniya Sobchak's candidacy meets the constitutional requirements for those intending to participate in presidential elections.
