On February 17, the Criminal Police Department of Ho Chi Minh City Police said that the Investigation Police Agency has investigated and clarified the case of a maid stealing 47 taels of SJC gold from her homeowner in Thu Duc City.

Previously, the Criminal Police Department of Ho Chi Minh City Police presided over and coordinated with Thu Duc City Police to investigate a property theft case that occurred at apartment LA5.11, Lexington apartment building, An Phu ward, Thu Duc city on January 25, 2022. The property damage was 47 taels of gold.

Around July 2021, Ms. Phan Thi Chau (born in 1955, permanent residence at No. 08, Street 10, An Phu Ward, Thu Duc City; residing at Lexington Apartment No. 65-67 Mai Chi Tho, Quarter 5, An Phu Ward, Thu Duc City) hired Nguyen Thi Phan (born in 1972, permanent residence at Long Thanh A Hamlet, Long Thanh Ward, Tan Chau Town, An Giang Province) as a housekeeper.

Subject Nguyen Thi Phan and the stolen gold.

Ms. Chau gave the key to house LA05-11, Lexington apartment building, 65-67 Mai Chi Tho, to Phan. On January 25, 2023, Ms. Chau and her family returned to their hometown in Thua Thien Hue province, so they handed the house over to Phan to manage. However, immediately after that, Phan did not look after the house, but went back to his hometown and called Ms. Chau to inform her that he would no longer be a housekeeper.

At around 8:00 a.m. on February 3, Ms. Chau checked her assets and was shocked to discover that 47 taels of SJC gold (equivalent to more than 2.9 billion VND) had been lost.

Currently, the investigation agency has seized more than 43 taels of SJC gold and 51.3 million VND that Phan hid.

Ms. Chau said that the gold was from the property she bought from selling land. She put the gold in a white plastic bag with old letters in an unlocked wooden cabinet. Immediately after that, Ms. Chau went to the police station to report.

The Criminal Police Department of Ho Chi Minh City Police coordinated with Thu Duc City Police to vigorously investigate and arrest Nguyen Thi Phan while she was hiding in room 310 of Cao Lanh Hotel, My Tho town, Cao Lanh district, Dong Thap province.

Checking this hotel room, the investigation agency seized more than 43 taels of SJC gold and 51.3 million VND.

At the investigation agency, Nguyen Thi Phan initially confessed to her crime.
