(Baonghean.vn)In 1984, Ms. Hong was recruited into the Military Political School of the Military Region. From 1995, she transferred to the Provincial Military Command. Nearly 30 years in the military and just as many years dedicated to troop support work – a job with no shortage of difficulties and hardships – but regardless of the circumstances, Major Tran Thi Hong, a troop support staff member of the Provincial Military Command, always strives to excel and successfully complete her duties.
Ms. Tran Thi Hong was born in Hue but spent most of her working life in Nghe An province. From the moment she joined the military, she dedicated herself to providing meals for the soldiers. A responsible and dedicated professional, she cared deeply about the health of the troops. Despite lacking formal training, she diligently sought to learn and improve her skills and work efficiency through her personal commitment and sense of responsibility. Bearing in mind President Ho Chi Minh's teaching, "Our army must be well-fed to win," she always reminded herself that her work, though seemingly small, made a significant contribution to the unit's successful completion of its mission.
Having been assigned the task of supplying provisions by her superiors, while her unit was stationed in the heart of the city, Hong constantly worried about how to buy the freshest and most delicious food at reasonable prices, within the soldiers' food budget. She spent a lot of time researching local markets to choose the most suitable times and locations to purchase goods and supplies.
And so, day after day, Hong would wake up at 3 a.m., go to the wholesale markets to buy food, saving 20 to 25% compared to normal prices. There were days with drizzling rain and biting winds, waking up to go to the market in the cold, which made her feel discouraged, but her love for her comrades helped her overcome everything. And so, every morning at 5 a.m., the officers and soldiers would see her rushing back with heavy loads of fresh vegetables and food, ready to prepare delicious and nutritious meals.
In addition, she actively participated in the troop's food service team's agricultural production, contributing to improving the soldiers' meals. She diligently utilized leftover rice and food scraps, and collected discarded vegetables for livestock feed. Her troop's food service team consistently maintained over 20 healthy, fattened pigs, supplying tons of meat annually to the military, exceeding the planned targets and earning high praise from superiors.
In addition, she actively participates in cultural and artistic activities of the Women's Association and the Trade Union. At the same time, she fully and effectively participates in all steps of the "Studying and Following the Moral Example of Ho Chi Minh" campaign, especially the "following" step, and effectively implements the "saving for oneself to help those in need" movement launched by the Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial Military Command.
Not only does Ms. Hong excel in her professional duties, but she also fulfills her roles as a devoted mother, wife, and daughter-in-law. Her husband is a retired soldier, her father-in-law is a war hero who died fighting against the Americans, and her mother-in-law is now elderly and bedridden due to a stroke. Her children are all of school age. Despite these difficult family circumstances, she always strives to overcome challenges, managing her time effectively to balance her work and family responsibilities, truly deserving the title of a woman who is "excellent in both her professional and domestic life."
Thanks to her achievements and efforts, in 2008 and 2009, Major Tran Thi Hong was honored as an outstanding soldier at the grassroots level. In 2010, she received a Certificate of Commendation from the Chairman of the People's Committee of Nghe An province. She also received a Certificate of Commendation from the Military Region for her achievements in the three-year campaign "Studying and following the moral example of Ho Chi Minh" among the women's forces of the Military Region.
In our conversation, Ms. Hong didn't talk much about her achievements. With her gentle Hue accent, she said: "I always consider the officers and soldiers in my unit as my family, so I always try to overcome all difficulties to provide delicious meals for the troops. After hours of strenuous training, studying, and work, seeing everyone eat their full rations and enjoy their meals makes me very happy. For me, the job of feeding the troops is not just a duty, but also a responsibility and a joy."
