20-year-old model Mansi Dixit was brutally murdered on October 15, her body was found in a suitcase under a mangrove bush in Malad. 19-year-old student Muzzammil Syed - the prime suspect in the case - was arrested soon after. At the Bangur Nagar police station, Syed confessed to killing Dixit, after she refused to have sex with him.

According to the newspaperOne India,At the time of the incident, Dixit had returned to the city from her hometown in Rajasthan. She arranged to meet Syed at his home, which was also the first time they met. The student then flirted with her. When she refused, he attacked her and hit her on the head with a chair, causing her to faint. Syed confessed that he was "very scared" after seeing Dixit faint, and he tried to wake her by pouring water on her face, gradually waking her up. However, Syed was worried that his mother would find out when she returned home, so he strangled Dixit to death with his cloak.
Syed confessed to calling a taxi to dispose of the body. He stuffed her body into a suitcase and put it in the taxi, then abandoned the suitcase under a large tree. However, the driver noticed something strange and immediately called the police. Mansi's body was found later, still wrapped around her neck.
