Disabled mother from Ninh Binh comes to Nghe An hoping to see her son in court
(Baonghean.vn) - Her husband is deaf and mute, and she herself is seriously ill after a near-death illness, so it was very difficult for Mrs. Sot to have a child. Hung used to be the pride of the couple, but then this young man fell deeper into the mud.
64 years old, but Mrs. Nguyen Thi Sot, resident of Ninh Binh City (Ninh Binh) looks much older than her age. Small in stature, with a haggard face, she quietly attended the trial of the People's Court of Nghe An Province, which took place on a day at the end of May.
To make the journey of more than 200 kilometers, this woman had to take a bus from the previous evening. She said, it had been several months since she had visited her child, so this time, even though she was sick, she tried to take the bus to attend the court to see her child.

The child this woman mentioned is Vu Sy Hung (33 years old) - the defendant who is being tried for the crime of Illegal drug trafficking. The two accomplices who are also being tried in this case are Pham Dinh Hien (27 years old, Ninh Binh), for the crime of Illegal drug trafficking and Nguyen Thi Trang (27 years old, Thanh Hoa), for the crime of not reporting a crime.
During the trial, she sat far away, her face often bowed. Occasionally, Mrs. Sot quietly walked out to the hallway of the courtroom, wiping away her tears. Her eyes were red as she said that Hung was the couple's only child. Her husband was born deaf and mute, and she had a contracted tongue and a hunched back after a serious illness, making it difficult for her to speak. They came together in a "like-minded" way. It was very difficult to have a child, so she devoted all her love to Hung. However, that child was stubborn and unruly.
After finishing 6th grade, Hung dropped out of school and followed his friends to hang out. Coming out early, Hung could not overcome the pitfalls of society. At the age of 18, Hung officially got into trouble with the law with a 7-year prison sentence for robbery. Not long after, Hung continued to be imprisoned for theft. In 2013 alone, Hung was twice punished for intentional injury and possession of military weapons. In March 2017, Hung finished serving his sentence. After being released from prison, instead of working hard, Hung relapsed and got into trouble again. This time, Hung and his accomplices participated in drug trafficking.
According to the case file, on November 18, 2018, Hung called Lang Van Tuan (Nghe An) to buy 1 kg of crystal meth and 5 packets of pink phien to sell for profit. After agreeing on the price, Hung invited Pham Dinh Hien and Nguyen Thi Trang to follow him. Hien was assigned to drive, Trang went along but did not know about the drug trade. When they reached Quy Chau town, the three rented a motel to stay. Late at night on November 20, Tuan Anh went to the motel, where the group took out the drugs that Hung had brought to use. After the high, Tuan Anh and Hung discussed buying drugs. Trang sat next to them so she heard the whole conversation between the two.

Early in the morning of November 21, the two sides decided to carry out the "goods" transaction. Being a suspicious person, Tuan Anh asked Hien to drive around to avoid the authorities. When he felt safe enough, Tuan Anh gave Hung 1 kg of crystal meth and 5 packets of pink phien, in exchange Hung paid 200 million VND. The transaction was successful, Tuan Anh got out of the car, and the rest continued their journey. At 5:00 a.m. the same day, when they reached Tien Phong commune, Que Phong district, the group was signaled to stop and arrested by the authorities. The seized evidence was 1,100 grams of methamphetamine bought from Tuan Anh and 4 grams of methamphetamine Hung brought along for use.
In court, while his two accomplices confessed honestly, Hung often answered the questions of the jury briefly. Hung said he sold drugs because of addiction and debt. Considering the case as a whole, the jury sentenced Vu Sy Hung to life in prison for Illegal drug trafficking and 5 years in prison for Illegal drug possession. The total sentence that this defendant must receive is life in prison. Pham Dinh Hien was sentenced to 20 years in prison for Illegal drug trafficking, and Nguyen Thi Trang was sentenced to 9 months in prison for failing to report a crime.
Hearing her son’s sentence, Mrs. Son was stunned. Her husband died while Hung was serving his previous sentence, so now she only had her son to lean on. But Hung’s life sentence left the miserable mother with no one to rely on in her final days.
