Young mother helplessly watches 14-month-old child go blind

(Baonghean.vn) - After 4 years of waiting, Mr. Truong Van Luan (born in 1988) and Ms. Thai Thi Minh (born in 1994) in Thuong Khanh hamlet, Nghia Khanh commune (Nghia Dan) welcomed their first child with indescribable happiness. However, the joy was short-lived, because after only 2 months, they almost collapsed when the doctor announced that their child had congenital atrophy of both eyes.

Van Chuong was diagnosed with congenital bilateral eye atrophy and could not open his eyes.

Feeling sorry for their newborn child who had to suffer from illness, Minh and her husband mortgaged their relatives and sold their buffaloes for 30 million VND to take their child to all the district, provincial and Hanoi hospitals for treatment with a slim hope. At the Central Eye Hospital, the doctors concluded that Van Chuong had congenital atrophy of both eyes, requiring long-term and very expensive treatment.

After nearly 4 years of marriage, they had to go through a lot of trouble to find a cure and medicine to give birth to their baby. Now, every day, they painfully look at their 14-month-old child, unable to open his eyes, unable to roll over or crawl, only lying on his back, occasionally waving his arms to look for his mother. Minh and her husband feel like their hearts are broken. Due to poor resistance, and suffering from convulsions and epilepsy, Chuong is often sick. The couple spends all their time taking care of their child and cannot go to work. The family's already difficult financial situation has become even more difficult.

The Women's Union and neighbors came to share and help Ms. Minh's family.

Both paternal and maternal families are in difficult circumstances. At this point, all their money and cattle have been sold. In the old, dilapidated tiled house, there is nothing of value left. Looking at their little son crying for his mother, they feel sorry for him. They just hope that he will be healthy enough to have another surgery, hoping that he can see the light.

Ms. Duong Thi Luong - President of the Women's Union of Nghia Khanh Commune shared: Ms. Minh's family is one of the poor households of ethnic minorities with difficult circumstances, and her child is born blind. Recently, the Fatherland Front Committee, the Women's Union of the commune, together with the neighborhood, called for support for Ms. Minh's family. However, in order to have funds for long-term treatment for her child, we hope that all levels, sectors, and benefactors will pay attention, so that Ms. Minh's family has the opportunity to treat her child.

Any help for Van Chuong can be sent to Mr. Truong Van Luan and Ms. Thai Thi Minh in Thuong Khanh hamlet, Nghia Khanh commune, Nghia Dan district.
