Foreign Ministry Spokesperson: Chinese ship Haiyang 8 has withdrawn from Vietnam's continental shelf
China's Haiyang 8 survey ship group stopped survey activities and left Vietnam's exclusive economic zone (EEZ) and continental shelf on August 7.

On August 8, at the regular press conference of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in response to a reporter's question requesting updated information on the illegal activities of the Chinese survey ship Haiyang Dizhi 8 in Vietnam's exclusive economic zone and continental shelf, spokesperson Le Thi Thu Hang said:
“On the afternoon of August 7, 2019, the Chinese survey ship Haiyang 8 stopped its survey activities and left Vietnam’s exclusive economic zone and continental shelf in the southeast as determined by the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS 1982). Vietnamese authorities are continuing to monitor.”
Ms. Le Thi Thu Hang added that regarding the incident, in recent days, Vietnam has repeatedly expressed its opinions and implemented measures at all levels and in many forms in accordance with international law and UNCLOS 1982.
The spokesperson emphasized that Vietnam requests countries to respect Vietnam's sovereignty, sovereign rights and jurisdiction in accordance with international law; always affirms its goodwill and readiness to negotiate and discuss with relevant countries to resolve disagreements, contributing to maintaining peace, stability and development in the East Sea as well as promoting friendly relations and cooperation between countries.
