"The terrorist attacks cannot be ignored. The Syrian army is in its own country, on its own territory, of course it responded, which led to extreme tensions. Thank God, the Russian and Turkish armies are in constant contact with each other and, as we see, if necessary, the presidents will engage in discussions on this topic," Peskov said.
Earlier, the Russian Center for Reconciliation of the Warring Sides said that pro-Turkish militants, with the support of Turkish artillery, broke through the defense lines of the Syrian army in the Kminas and Nairab areas. Russian Su-24 aircraft attacked the terrorists, destroying 1 tank, 6 infantry fighting vehicles and 5 pickup trucks.
"The tension remains. This week, President Putin has devoted a lot of time to the situation in Syria. And especially the crisis around Idlib," said the Russian leader's spokesman, Mr. Peskov.
Earlier, Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan said that Türkiye has not received positive results in negotiations with the Russian Federation on Syria's Idlib, so it is ready to start a military operation in this area. The press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation, Mr. Dmitry Peskov, called it the worst-case scenario.
