Spokespeople and information providers for the press must 'raise the bar'

(Baonghean.vn) - The leader of Nghe An Provincial People's Committee said that the integration trend requires press agencies, journalists, spokespersons and information providers for the press to raise their "level".

Speaking at the Conference on the Implementation of the Press Law 2016 and Decree 09/2017/ND-CP on speaking and providing information to the press on the morning of April 14, comrade Le Minh Thong - Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, stated that these are documents that create an important legal corridor for the revolutionary press of Vietnam in general and the press of Nghe An in particular to continue to develop sustainably, and a support for journalists to carry out political tasks, better serve society and the people.

The Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee also said that departments, branches, sectors, People's Committees of districts, cities and towns have recognized the importance of appointing spokespersons and providing information to the press, and have selected and appointed spokespersons according to the requirements and standards. Some units have issued internal regulations on speaking and providing information to the press, promoting the role of spokespersons, providing a lot of information to ensure legality for the press, contributing to significantly limiting inaccurate reporting by press agencies.

Comrade Le Minh Thong pointed out the shortcomings in implementing the Press Law in general and speaking and providing information to the press in particular, and emphasized: “In the trend of integration and globalization, promoting press activities and press management plays an important role for the country in general, Nghe An in particular, and requires press agencies, journalists, spokespeople and information providers to raise their 'level'”.

To do that, it is necessary to have a correct understanding of revolutionary journalism, of modern journalism, of speaking and providing information to the press, and to urgently perfect the implementation mechanism to ensure freedom of the press and ensure the society's right to receive information and be informed.

At the conference, delegates were informed by Journalist Tran Ba ​​Dung about 9 new points of the 2016 Press Law, notes and situations to pay attention to in press management and operations, social responsibility of journalists; detailed regulations on speaking and providing information to the press by state administrative agencies according to Decree 09/2017/ND-CP; speaking skills and providing information to the press.

The topic contributes to improving the professional skills and knowledge of officials, reporters and editors of press agencies, and at the same time helps the team of spokespersons and information providers for the press in agencies, units and localities in the province understand and flexibly apply, provide timely and complete press information and public opinion.
