The woman with 'poisonous blood' and the most mysterious mystery in the history of world medicine
On a cold winter night in 1994, a woman was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. At the time, no one could have guessed that she was the cause of a series of mysterious events that happened to the 23 medical staff on duty that day.
Emergency at night and the woman with "toxic blood"
At 8:15 p.m. on February 19, 1994, General Hospital in Riverside, California, USA, received a patient named Gloria Ramirez (31 years old) with cervical cancer, slow heart rate and difficulty breathing when brought to the emergency room.

The woman with "poisonous blood" Gloria Ramirez is one of the great mysteries of the medical field. |
When the nurses rushed to Gloria's side, they realized that she had very strange symptoms, a dreamy mind, and an extremely high heart rate, many symptoms in elderly patients.
Doctors then injected Gloria with valium, versican and ativan to sedate her, and they also used lidocaine to increase her heart rate. However, all measures seemed to be ineffective, so doctors had to use electric shock to stimulate her heart rate.
From here, a series of strange things that no one has been able to explain to this day have happened.
Moments after giving Gloria Ramirez an electric shock, a layer of oily fluid was seen covering her body and a strange ammonia smell was emitted from her blood.
When nurse Susan Kane tried to take a blood sample from the patient for testing, she noticed strange particles floating in Gloria’s blood. Before she could report anything, Susan suddenly passed out. Then Dr. Julie Gorchynski passed out, and finally, resuscitator Maureen Welch did the same.
23 of the 34 medical staff on duty that night also began to show strange symptoms and 5 were forced to be hospitalized for treatment. Realizing the strange thing in the emergency room, the hospital leadership decided to isolate the patient's room, evacuate all medical staff, leaving only the best and most experienced doctors to treat them.
However, at 8:45 p.m., Gloria Ramirez passed away due to kidney failure.
Efforts to find solutions
Immediately after Gloria's death, the hospital requested an air purification test to prevent the spread of any dangerous substances. The California Department of Health sent someone to investigate the incident.
Accordingly, 34 staff and doctors present in the emergency room on the evening of February 19 all had symptoms such as dizziness, lightheadedness, shortness of breath and nausea. Those who directly touched Gloria Ramirez's body tended to have more severe symptoms, they fainted and had to be hospitalized.
All medical staff and doctors were tested for blood. The results showed that their blood was completely normal. Meanwhile, the results of the victim's blood test surprised the doctors, Gloria Ramirez's blood sample showed fibers that looked like paper.
Many hypotheses have since been put forward.
Some scientists believe that the mysterious medical events at General Hospital were actually due to the entire emergency team on February 19 suffering from “massive psychosis” and imagining strange signs on the patient’s body.
Others believe that the mix of drugs used in the emergency room led to adverse effects on the entire emergency team that day.
In addition, those who believe in supernatural phenomena believe that there is a high possibility that the female patient Gloria Ramirez was abducted by aliens and injected with strange substances for testing.
However, these hypotheses were quickly dismissed.
After the mysterious event, the hospital sent a team of experts to study hazardous materials to test the air. The team discovered that Gloria had been using dimethyl sulfoxide instead of painkillers, which caused the oil to spread throughout her body and create floating objects – believed to be crystals of the drug – in her blood.
However, to this day, no one knows why Gloria's case could affect so many others.
