(Baonghean.vn)- When seeing Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy (residing in Hamlet 6, Thach Son, Anh Son, Nghe An) going around asking for unfortunate fetuses from clinics around the area to bury, many people thought she was crazy and doing something crazy.

"If you don't do it, it will be a sin for you!"

Under the harsh sun of mid-May, we visited the home of Ms. Thuy, a woman who has spent more than 10 years collecting, burying and building cemeteries for unfortunate babies who were denied the right to live.

The place where she and her two children, the result of failed love affairs, live is an old, cramped house hidden behind the Lang Dien parish church. On the corner of the porch, she told us about the fate that brought her to the job of burying children who were denied the right to be human.

Ten years ago, when she accidentally came across some unborn babies that were heartlessly thrown away in the garbage of an obstetrics clinic, she could not bear it, so she gathered them and buried them in the cemetery. Since then, the torment of those little creatures being rejected by their own mothers has haunted her thoughts.

The pity that urged her every night made her decide to do something to help those poor children feel less cold and lonely. From that, she decided to "ask" for unfortunate fetuses from clinics around the area to bury.

In the early days of this job, everyone thought she was crazy and had too much energy. Some talked to her face, others talked behind her back. But ignoring all of them, she still silently worked, whether it was a hot sunny day or a stormy day.

“Every time I see those poor creatures abandoned in a corner of the clinic, I can’t leave. If I don’t do something, it would be a shame for them!”, Ms. Thuy said.

At first, she went to clinics to "ask", the doctors and medical staff all looked at her with strange, suspicious eyes. However, after hearing her thoughts, many people understood and sympathized with her and agreed to let her take the children home for burial. However, there were also many people who refused because they thought she had other bad intentions. Not discouraged, she still diligently and persistently went to all the clinics and obstetrics departments in the area. Once, twice, people were still confused and a bit suspicious, but by the third and fourth time, they gradually began to understand and without her having to come, every time there were cases like that, the doctors would call to inform her.

Every day, she takes care of the farm work, takes care of the housework, and then visits the hospitals and maternity clinics in the area.

“After talking directly with pregnant women many times, I understood each person’s situation. Some had too many children and could not afford to raise them, while others did not want to have children due to circumstances. There were also young people who wanted to use this method to force their families to accept them, but in the end they were still rejected. However, most of them were young women who had made mistakes in love. The more I talked, the more I felt sorry for these innocent children,” she confided.

And with that thought in mind, she often took the trouble to meet and advise pregnant women, hoping they would change their decision. Some understood and changed their minds, but there were also those who were forced to have an abortion due to circumstances.

Don't get married to raise orphans

In addition to collecting, burying and building cemeteries for unfortunate fetuses, despite her family's economic difficulties, Ms. Thuy still takes care of many female students who have made mistakes in love and adopts abandoned children.

Nearly 6 years ago, while visiting relatives at the hospital, Ms. Thuy happened to meet a young girl (from Thanh Chuong, Nghe An) wearing a school uniform, timidly looking for an abortion room. Looking at the girl's young and worried face, Ms. Thuy approached and asked. When she learned that the girl was 5 months pregnant, she tried her best to dissuade her, then took her home to take care of her until the day "mother and child are safe". After giving birth for nearly 12 days, the young mother left, leaving the child for Ms. Thuy to take care of. She named the child Hoai Thu and registered the birth with her last name.

Two months after meeting Hoai Thu's mother, Ms. Thuy took in another 19-year-old girl (from Tuong Duong, Nghe An), a student at a university in Hanoi, who also got pregnant because of love. After giving birth to a healthy baby boy, Ms. Thuy named him Tran An and took both mother and son home to take care of. A month later, the girl also left her child with Ms. Thuy and went to take care of her own life.

In 2013, when Tran An was almost 1 year old, she had acute pneumonia, and she had to take her child to many hospitals for treatment. Because her family's life was so difficult, Thuy had to mortgage and borrow 30 million VND from the bank to pay for medicine and milk for her child.

At the age of over 40, in addition to hard work in the fields, she also raises pigs, chickens and grows vegetables. During her free time, she works as a hired hand or collects scrap metal to sell to earn money to buy milk for her children.

It is known that when she was at the most beautiful age of a girl, because of her filial piety, she did not get married to take care of her parents. Time passed and she forgot the idea of starting her own family. And until the young girls who made mistakes in love were brought home to take care of and entrust their children, she became an unwilling mother. Currently, all three of them have to live with her brother because the house that their mother left behind is no longer habitable.

Sharing her future plans, she hugged her two children and said: "I love them like my own children. I hope they play well and are healthy, and grow up to be useful people to society. As for me, I just hope to have good health to work and take care of them until they grow up."

Saying goodbye to the mother and her children in the late afternoon sunlight, the bells in the church rang out, Ms. Thuy hesitated: “I always tell those children who have made mistakes, if they have no place to stay, to come here. I am always ready to help, take care of and protect them. Don’t be foolish enough to abandon innocent children. They are pitiful and blameworthy!”

Mr. Nguyen Xuan Hong, Vice Chairman of Thach Son Commune People's Committee shared: Ms. Thuy is a kind woman, who has taken care of many female students who have made mistakes in love and adopted abandoned children. The commune authorities have come to meet and encourage Ms. Thuy to continue caring for and raising orphans so that they can have a warm family.
