Woman Almost Went Blind After Watching 70 Episodes of TV Shows in One Week

According toGT, a woman surnamed Ting spent her entire holiday watching all 70 episodes, each lasting 45 minutes. There was very little time to rest, including eating and sleeping, between episodes.

On the eighth day, before she could finish watching her favorite movie, her left eye started to lose its vision. When she could only see silhouettes, the woman panicked and immediately went to the hospital for a check-up.

Ophthalmologists diagnosed Ting with acute ischemic optic neuropathy (AION), also known as an eye stroke. This condition occurs when blood flow to the optic nerve is blocked or reduced.

"The patient's eyes were too stressed from constantly working on the computer. In addition, the cold weather significantly reduces blood flow to the eyes. The first symptom is usually reduced or lost vision in one or both eyes, which gets worse after a few hours to a few days. Fortunately, the patient discovered it early and was treated quickly, so the chance of recovery is quite high," said an eye doctor treating Ms. Ting.

Eye strokes are usually painless but can quickly reduce vision without warning. In severe cases, patients can become permanently blind if not treated promptly. Ophthalmologists advise people to rest their eyes after 30 minutes of working on a computer or smartphone to avoid eye strokes and other harmful risks.
