Dooc May is a border commune of Ky Son district, adjacent to Laos, and is considered one of the most densely populated places for the Mong community. This is also considered a place of "high sky and low earth" with a complex climate, muddy rainy season, dry summer and cold winter, with snowfall in many years. Photo: Hoai Thu |

The road to Dooc May commune is extremely difficult and arduous. The road is muddy, with many steep slopes, making it difficult to walk on rainy days. However, for more than 20 years now, teacher Nguyen Trong Toan has been working hard to "sow" letters for this land. Pha Noi village school has only one teacher - Mr. Toan. Therefore, he has to do everything, from cleaning the classroom to beating the school drum... Every day, Mr. Toan wakes up early to wipe the tables and chairs, sweep the classroom to welcome the students. His joy is simply the wish that all the students come to school, no one is sick or skips school so that the classroom is always filled with laughter. Photo: Duc Anh |

With his sincere love for his students, Mr. Toan has silently passed on to them the love of learning when they go to school every day. Photo: Duc Anh |

Because the number of students in grade 1 is only 6, and grade 2 is only 4, Mr. Toan had to combine the 2 classes into 1 combined class. Teaching both classes at the same time will be more difficult, because the lessons in each class must always be continuous, always creating interest and attention from the students. Photo: Duc Anh |

Pha Noi village has no electricity, so the children's learning depends on the weather. On foggy mornings with poor light, the children have to go to school late. Photo: Duc Anh |

To teach the students here, in addition to sacrifice and hard work, Mr. Toan also has to be close to them and understand the personality of each student. In each lesson, he puts all his love and responsibility into it with the hope that the students will make more and more progress in their studies. Photo: Duc Anh |

Having to live in a remote and isolated place, Mr. Toan has to do everything himself from cooking, cleaning the house, classroom... Mr. Toan shared: "I have to be close to and take care of the children all day, so I'm also busy. When I first came here, I missed home a lot, but now I'm used to it, and I feel sorry for the students in the highlands who still have many shortages. Every day, Mr. Toan is more attached to and "loves" the difficulties and hardships here. Mr. Toan's daily life is also very simple, waking up early in the morning to cook rice for the whole day, and eating whatever is available, not fussy." Photo: Duc Anh |

There is no electricity at night, so Mr. Toan takes advantage of the noon time to prepare lessons for tomorrow's class. Although he knows that life here is still difficult and hard, with his love for children, Mr. Nguyen Trong Toan still works hard day and night to "sow" the seeds of letters for the children. In his work, Mr. Nguyen Trong Toan always upholds his responsibility and is a shining example for his colleagues to follow. Photo: Duc Anh |
