Born and raised in the coastal commune of Dien Kim, Ms. Nguyen Thi Vinh has also done many jobs such as processing fish sauce, shrimp paste, and trading fish. In 2000, she noticed that local fishermen exploited a lot of jellyfish and sold them very cheaply to Chinese traders, while if processed, jellyfish would be sold on the market at dozens of times the price of "raw" like that. After researching the market and learning processing techniques, Ms. Vinh discussed with her husband, Mr. Dinh Van Khanh, to open the first jellyfish processing facility in Dien Chau district.

To proactively source raw materials and close the process from exploitation to processing, Ms. Vinh directly invested in local fishermen to build 80 new rafts, with an investment of 5 million VND per raft (half the value of each raft). All jellyfish from fishermen in the coastal communes of Dien Chau are purchased by her family, on peak days they can purchase up to 150 tons of jellyfish. Processing jellyfish is a fairly new profession for coastal people, so to ensure product quality, she hired 2 technical experts to come to the site to instruct on how to process and mix flavors to turn soft jellyfish into a seafood specialty with a crunchy texture and special flavor. Ms. Vinh herself directly selects raw materials, instructs workers to strictly follow technical processes and ensure food hygiene and safety, meeting strict criteria when exporting abroad.

The jellyfish season in Dien Chau sea area usually lasts from November of the previous year to April of the following year. During this time, Ms. Vinh has to hire up to 50 seasonal workers and 15 regular workers every day to be able to buy all the jellyfish for the people.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong's family has been selling jellyfish to Ms. Vinh's facility for 14 years. She said: "The family used to be very poor, but when Ms. Vinh supported them with capital to build rafts to catch jellyfish, they were purchased at a reasonable and fair price. As soon as they caught jellyfish, Ms. Vinh's facility bought everything. For example, in March, the family exploited up to 2 tons of jellyfish per day, earning over 2 million VND. In addition, Ms. Vinh also established 2 more jellyfish purchasing and processing facilities in Ha Tinh and Quang Binh to ensure adequate supply for customers.

While looking for jellyfish export sources abroad, Ms. Vinh also actively seeks and expands the domestic consumption market to reduce risks. Thanks to the guaranteed quality, as soon as Khanh Vinh's jellyfish is processed, customers come to order it. On average, each year the facility purchases 3,500 tons of jellyfish and processes 350 tons, earning a revenue of 7 billion VND. When the jellyfish season ends, each year she also purchases 300 tons of various fish in Quynh Luu district and Thanh Hoa province to export abroad to animal feed processing facilities. Mr. Khanh - Ms. Vinh's husband is also active in going to the South and North to find markets, opening more production facilities in the provinces.

Since Ms. Vinh's inception, Dien Chau has developed 3 more jellyfish purchasing and processing facilities, helping about 500 fishermen earn tens of millions of dong each jellyfish fishing season. Although busy with her work, Ms. Vinh always cares about taking care of her family and children. Her children are all obedient, hard-working and good at studying. Ms. Vinh also spends time participating in the district's women business club, actively supporting charity movements of the commune and district Women's Union. On average, her family donates 20 million dong each year to charity activities. With the dynamism, daring to think, daring to do, and determination to overcome poverty of coastal women, in 2009, she was invited by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Women's Union to attend the conference "Typical women in the patriotic emulation movement".
