The village chief 'talks and does'

(Baonghean.vn) - For more than 10 years as head of village 9, Long Son commune (Anh Son), Mr. Nguyen Duc Phi is not only active and enthusiastic in local activities, but he is also a pioneer in economic development, striving to become rich on his homeland.

Taking us around the 6-hectare Dat Do mountain range, of which 2 hectares of tea have been planted for 15 years, 1 hectare has been planted for 3 years and 3 hectares of acacia and cajuput trees are about to be harvested, Mr. Phi said: "Before planting tea, this land was overgrown with weeds and there was no way to go. In 2001, when the district had a policy to plant industrial tea, in this area, only my family reclaimed the land to grow tea."

The 2-hectare tea hill has been planted for 15 years in the Dat Do mountain range of Mr. Phi's family.

When he first started growing tea, he consulted through reading books and newspapers, went on field trips to learn tea cultivation techniques in many places and applied them to his family's tea area. Thanks to proper care, the tea grew well, each month he harvested over 4 tons of fresh tea buds, the local purchase price was 33,000 VND/yen, after deducting expenses, he also earned a profit of over 10 million VND/month, creating seasonal jobs for 5 workers inside and outside the village with an income of 200,000 VND/day.

Not stopping there, in 2012 he expanded by 1 hectare of tea, 2 hectares of acacia, cajuput, 3 sao of pond, raising livestock and poultry. Up to now, his family's total income has reached over 300 million VND/year.

Not only developing the family economy, Mr. Phi also creates seasonal jobs for 5 workers inside and outside the village with an income of 200,000 VND/day.

Not only developing the economy and enriching his family, Mr. Phi is also a prestigious and exemplary village chief. With 10 years of experience as a village chief, he has always promoted his role as a bridge between the people and the Party, trying to do his best and take responsibility to gradually develop village 9, becoming a village with a fairly developed economy in the commune.

Although he is over 50 years old, village chief Nguyen Duc Phi is not afraid of difficulties, regardless of sun or rain, he often goes directly to households to propagate and mobilize people to comply with all policies of the Party, policies and laws of the State, especially to participate in the program of building new rural areas.

To increase his family's income, Mr. Phi also dug a 3-acre pond to raise fish.

Previously, the roads in village 9 were narrow and difficult to travel, so Mr. Phi proposed to harden and widen them. After many meetings, mobilizations, and propaganda, most of the villagers realized the benefits of concreting, so 100% of the households in the village agreed.

During the implementation process, Mr. Phi and the village leadership have well implemented the democratic, public and transparent regulations in revenue and expenditure, always listening to the opinions of the villagers. If there were households that still had questions and did not understand, he would come to their homes to explain. In 2015 alone, the villagers of village 9 donated land, working days and contributed 1.8 million VND per household to build 1 km of concrete road, and cleared and widened 1 km of road to help the villagers travel more conveniently.

In 2015, Mr. Phi mobilized villagers to donate land and labor days to pour concrete.

As an active village chief, Mr. Phi is not only a pioneer in bringing industrial tea to village 9, Long Son commune, but he also shares his experience, guides and helps villagers in accessing and expanding the tea area. Thanks to that, the whole village now has nearly 30 hectares of industrial tea, the lives of villagers have improved, many households have escaped poverty. Currently, the village has over 50% of well-off and rich households, over 80% of households have achieved the title of cultural family.

Mr. Nguyen Van Tuan - Vice Chairman of Long Son Commune People's Committee assessed: "Mr. Phi is a responsible, energetic, enthusiastic village chief, who does social work very effectively. Many policies and guidelines of the Party and State, when received from the commune and district, he immediately implemented them to the people. Over the years, village chief Nguyen Duc Phi has always excellently fulfilled his duties, especially he is also a good businessman in the commune, worthy of being an example for everyone to learn and follow."
