Vietnamese people spend nearly 13,000 billion VND on snacks every month.

The average spending on eating out for people born in 1995 or later is about VND890,000 per month, according to research by Decision Lab.

Market research firm Decision Lab has just released a report on spending trends of the group born in 1995 and later (also known as Generation Z). It is estimated that Vietnam has more than 14.4 million people in this age group and more than 56% of them have no income or an income of less than 3 million VND per month.

Despite their modest income and heavy dependence on their families, Generation Z's spending on eating out is up to VND892,400. On average, this group spends nearly VND13,000 billion per month on food. This is considered a potential customer group and a pioneer in changes to the food and beverage industry in big cities.

According to Decision Lab, an estimated 133 million customers in this group spent money on eating out in the third quarter of this year. Fast food restaurants were the most popular choice, accounting for about 25% of the choices, followed by street stalls at 18% and convenience stores at 17%.

The eating habits of this group are quite different from the previous generation, partly due to their adaptability to modern lifestyles. Typically, they can eat at any time of the day, while other age groups often adhere to fixed mealtimes. The most favorite drink of this group is milk tea, while the previous generation maintains their preference for coffee and beer.

Despite their social media-driven lifestyles, most of this demographic distrusts advertising, online reviews, and celebrity recommendations. Family references still have a significant impact on their out-of-home spending decisions. The report suggests that food and beverage businesses that want to win the trust of this demographic need to focus on listening to and responding to feedback in a timely manner, ensuring a positive user experience.
