The first Vietnamese to be a judge at the prestigious Tchaikovsky competition
Associate Professor Dr. Ta Quang Dong is the first Vietnamese person to be invited to be a judge in the Piano category at the PI Tchaikovsky Competition in Russia, after 65 years since 1958 when the event began.

The presence of a Vietnamese as a judge at the PI Tchaikovsky competition has become a source of pride for many generations of Vietnamese classical music lovers.
This is a music event held every four years organized by the Ministry of Culture of Russia under the auspices of the Government. The program takes place from June 19 to July 1, 2023 in Moscow and St Petersburg. The competition is recognized by Russia as one of the country's most representative music events.
Many domestic audiences who love this music genre were even more excited to learn that for the first time a Vietnamese person was invited to be a member of the jury for the Piano category.
Accordingly, Associate Professor Dr. Ta Quang Dong arranged his work to be in Russia in time with 11 famous artists, pedagogues, and music experts in the world to evaluate the exams of candidates majoring in Piano.

Associate Professor, Dr. Ta Quang Dong was born in 1966. He was sent to study for a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Piano at the Moscow Conservatory and the Gnessin Academy of Music (Russia) in 1988. He received his PhD in Music from the same Academy in 2003.
Upon returning home, he held many high positions in the music field such as Deputy Director of Hue Academy of Music and Director of Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music.
His achievements in training students who won prizes at international music competitions over the years as well as his experience as a jury member of many other international piano competitions helped Associate Professor Dr. Ta Quang Dong receive an invitation from the Organizing Committee of the 17th PI Tchaikovsky.
“The PI Tchaikovsky Competition provides contestants with a truly professional playing field. This is also an opportunity to promote cooperation between Russia and Vietnam in the fields of music in particular and culture in general,” said Associate Professor Dr. Ta Quang Dong.
