On July 25, the People's Court of Nghe An province opened the first instance trial of the defendants: Nguyen Thi Chau (born 1980); Nguyen Huu Giap (born 1984) and Ho Minh Tuan (born 1979), all residing in Quy Hop town, Quy Hop district, for the crime of "Illegal drug trafficking".

According to the case file, in mid-May 2022, Nguyen Thi Chau bought 1 heroin cake to divide into small retail packages to make a profit and for her husband to use. Chau used an electronic scale to divide the heroin into many small packages and hid them in the house.

On June 8, 12 and 15, 2022, Nguyen Huu Giap and Ho Minh Tuan contacted Chau to buy drugs. Giap bought 5 packages of heroin, Tuan bought 1 package of heroin to sell to other people.addictsin the area of ​​use. Illegal drug use by addicts was discovered by the police.

Based on the statements of those who bought the drugs for use, the police arrested Giap, Tuan and Chau one by one. Searching Chau's residence, the authorities seized more than 114 grams of drugs, nearly 6 million VND in drug proceeds and an electronic scale.

At the trial, the defendants admitted to their crimes. The female defendant Chau said she bought drugs from a man of unknown origin for 243 million VND and then sold them to Giap and Tuan for profit. At the same time, the drugs were also for her husband to use gradually.

The other two defendants stated that they bought drugs from Chau and divided them into small pieces to resell to addicts. With each package of heroin (a small amount of which was taken out for use), the defendants made a profit of 100,000 to 200,000 VND.

After considering the role of each defendant in the case, the People's Court sentenced Nguyen Thi Chau to 20 years in prison, Nguyen Huu Giap to 7 years in prison, and Ho Minh Tuan to 2 years in prison for "Illegal drug trafficking".
