Continuing the trial of MobiFone's acquisition of 95% of shares of Global Audiovisual Joint Stock Company - AVG, on the afternoon of December 17, the panel of judges summoned a number of people with related rights and obligations. Notably, among them were the wife of defendant Truong Minh Tuan - former Minister of Information and Communications and Ms. Kolmakova Ekaterina Valerievna - wife of defendant Pham Nhat Vu - former Chairman of AVG.
Ms. Kolmakova Ekaterina Valerievna, a Ukrainian citizen, has been living in Vietnam with her husband for about 15 years and speaks Vietnamese very well. In court, this woman brought a set of documents and asked to present a few things about her husband.

Defendant Vu’s wife said that her husband was the only person in the history of cases in Vietnam who had proactively remedied all the consequences with such a large amount of money. When the incident happened, she witnessed Mr. Vu not hiding but staying to take responsibility.
Regarding the case, when the Prime Minister had not yet approved the investment policy, Mr. Nguyen Bac Son directed and assigned Mr. Truong Minh Tuan to sign Decision No. 236/QD-BTTTT dated December 21, 2015 to approve the project. From here, AVG sold 95% of its shares to MobiFone for nearly VND 8,900 billion, many times higher than AVG's real value, bringing benefits to Pham Nhat Vu and AVG shareholders of nearly VND 6,500 billion.
Mr. Nguyen Bac Son is the mastermind behind MobiFone's purchase of AVG.
Former Minister Nguyen Bac Son was accused of directing MobiFone to buy AVG shares for personal motives, causing a loss of nearly 6,700 billion VND.
After the project, Mr. Vu bribed Mr. Son with 3 million USD (more than 66 billion VND), Mr. Le Nam Tra (former Chairman of MobiFone Board of Directors) with 2.5 million USD (more than 55 billion VND), Mr. Hai with 500,000 USD (more than 11 billion VND) and Mr. Tuan with 200,000 USD (more than 4 billion VND).
