Risk of erectile dysfunction from fake cordyceps
Recently, a type of dietary supplement to enhance male libido, supposedly handcrafted by the traditional herbal medicine pharmacy Bao Tam Duong, has been causing a stir online.
According to the pharmacist at this 'exclusive' pharmacy: "This medicine was formulated by three pharmacists, sourced from Cordyceps sinensis at the Institute of Plant Protection (Hanoi), along with ingredients such as Epimedium, Cynomorium, Cistanche, Dioscorea... all working together to enhance sexual function." The product is suitable for middle-aged and elderly people to 'treat' erectile dysfunction, impotence, premature ejaculation, decreased libido, physical weakness, stress, etc.

According to the advertisement, the pharmacy claims that 80% of users have experienced positive effects. One 85-year-old man even said he was still "enhancing" his libido, and they stated, "We guarantee 100% Vietnamese origin, improved sexual performance after 10 days, or a 100% refund."
With such "credible" advertising, images of this product, lacking origin and ingredient information, constantly flood online shopping sites and are sought after by many women for their husbands at exorbitant prices.
However, information from the Food Safety Department, Ministry of Health, indicates that this Cordyceps supplement for enhancing male libido has not been granted a certificate of conformity with food safety regulations or a license for circulation.

Following this incident, the Food Safety Department issued a warning. Recently, the National Institute of Food Safety and Hygiene Testing (Ministry of Health) conducted surprise inspections of six types of sexual enhancement supplements on the market and discovered that two of them contained the aphrodisiac substances Vardenafil and Sildenafil. These two active ingredients are intended to help treat erectile dysfunction in men, but they are not permitted in dietary supplements because their use, without proper dosage control, can lead to low blood pressure, increased heart rate, and even heart attacks and strokes.
Therefore, based on the test results, the Ministry of Health advises consumers to be especially cautious when using unregulated dietary supplements on the market with unclear origins and ingredients.
