Mr. Ha Hung Cuong said he will return the public house even though he has not received a response from the Ministry of Construction regarding the request to extend the rental period.

Speaking to VnExpress on June 17, the former Minister of Justice said that on June 16, he proactively contacted the person in charge of managing public housing according to the instructions of the Ministry of Construction and made an appointment to complete the procedures to return the house on Monday morning.

According to the former Minister, after he sent a written request to extend the rental period of the house, he has not yet received a response from the Ministry of Construction. However, he said that he wrote the request to express his wish but is still willing to return the official house according to regulations.

A representative of Tay Do Real Estate Management Company Limited - the unit managing and operating the public housing - also confirmed that Mr. Ha Hung Cuong had discussed and made an appointment to work on the handover of the public housing on Monday.

Previously, at the end of March, the Ministry of Construction had sent a notice to Mr. Cuong about returning the official residence that he had rented since 2013 when he was the Minister of Justice. However, the former Minister later submitted a request to the Ministry of Construction to extend the rental period of the house until mid-2018 because his private house was frequently flooded. Another option proposed by Mr. Cuong was to buy back the above-mentioned official residence apartment.

In this document, the former Minister of Justice also shared that from the time he was appointed Deputy Minister of Justice (1998) until his retirement (2016), he had not enjoyed any housing or land policies from the Central or local governments.
