Nguyen Khac Thuy arrives at prison to serve a 3-year prison sentence
Nguyen Khac Thuy went to detention to serve his sentence for molesting two girls, without requesting a postponement due to health reasons as he had previously intended.
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Son, Chief Justice of the People's Court of Vung Tau City (Ba Ria - Vung Tau) said that on the morning of June 18, Nguyen Khac Thuy (78 years old) voluntarily went to the detention camp of Vung Tau City Police to serve a 3-year prison sentence for the crime ofChild molestation.
Lawyer Pham Xuan Hai (defending Thuy) said that his client did not write a request for postponement due to poor health as he had previously intended.
Last week, Vung Tau City People's Court issued a decision, giving Thuy 7 days to voluntarily serve her sentence before being escorted by the enforcement agency.

Nguyen Khac Thuy was convicted of molesting two girls living in the same apartment building, Lakeside (Vung Tau City) in 2014. In November 2017, the People's Court of Vung Tau City sentenced Thuy to 3 years in prison. Thuy appealed, claiming his innocence.
On May 11, the Ba Ria - Vung Tau People's Court partially accepted the appeal because it believed that there was only grounds to accuse Thuy of sexually abusing a child. The defendant is elderly and sick, so the panel of judges reduced the sentence from 3 years in prison to 18 months of suspended imprisonment. This decision caused public outrage, forcing many agencies to speak out.
On June 1, the Judicial Committee held a review meeting and decided to annul the appeal judgment of the People's Court of Ba Ria - Vung Tau and uphold the first instance judgment because the trial was in accordance with the law.
