Nguyen Trung Hung - Patriotism through small actions
At the 8th National Emulation Congress held on December 27th and 28th in Hanoi, among the 21 delegates from Nghe An province, Nguyen Trung Hung (born in 1993) was one of two outstanding young talents in the field of education.
Following an introduction from Principal Dau Van Mui, we met him just as the school bell rang. Small in stature, with bright eyes, he appeared very approachable – that's what we noticed about this outstanding student, a typical young figure in the province's patriotic emulation movement.

Nguyen Trung Hung is currently a 12th-grade student in Physics class 12A3 at Phan Boi Chau Specialized High School. He was born and raised in a family where both his parents are workers at Tay Hieu 1 Farm. As the youngest of three siblings, Hung receives the attention and care of his entire family.
Although the wages of the farm workers were meager, my two older sisters had to go to work in the South after finishing high school to help support the family and provide for my education. All the family's hopes rested on Hung - their youngest son, who was intelligent and determined.
When Hung finished primary school, his parents decided to enroll him in Thai Hoa Secondary School, a specialized school in Nghia Dan district at the time. At this school, although the distance from his home to school was over 10 kilometers, he diligently attended classes regardless of the weather.
Even now, when reminded of the memories that led him to choose his subject, Hung still cherishes his love for Physics, the subject he has pursued for a long time. For Hung, the deeper he delves into it, the more he sees the immense applications of Physics in everyday life.
Because it's a subject that requires phenomenal thinking, to solve each problem, it's essential to research and place it within a specific context. The result of my passion was that in junior high school, I won third prize in the provincial student excellence competition.
It was later, with the guidance and support of my physics teacher, and the encouragement of my family and classmates, that I nurtured the aspiration to enter the specialized physics class at Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted, a school that has become a prestigious institution, a source of pride and a dream for most parents and students in the province.
During his time at school, Hung's efforts paid off. In the 2008-2009 school year, he was overjoyed to receive his acceptance letter to the Physics specialization class at Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted. Following the example of his predecessors, from the moment he entered the school, Nguyen Trung Hung set a goal for himself on his path to acquiring knowledge.
With the motto: "Learn, learn more, learn forever," from the very first day he arrived in the city to study at a prestigious school, Nguyen Trung Hung worked hard. And the student from the Hieu River has now become a "leader" in Physics. In the 2009-2010 school year, Hung won first prize in the national Physics competition and an honorable mention at the 2010 Asian Physics Olympiad, receiving a Certificate of Commendation from the Organizing Committee and the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee.
When asked about the secret to his academic success, Hung shared: "I use textbook knowledge as a foundation," but to achieve good results in national and international exams, one must dedicate time to reading, referencing additional materials, regularly updating information, and most importantly, the key to success, in his opinion, is knowing how to set goals and having the determination to achieve them."
The road ahead in his pursuit of knowledge is still very long, but for Hung, his immediate goal is to strive for the best possible results in the National Excellent Student Selection Exam on January 11th and to prepare as well as possible for the university entrance exam. In the near future, Hung plans to apply to the Faculty of Engineering - University of Science - Vietnam National University, Hanoi.
Having the opportunity to participate in the National Emulation Congress, Hung shared: "I am very happy to be selected as a young delegate from the province to attend the congress. The results I have achieved today are thanks to the encouragement and support of the school, teachers, friends, and family; the care and support of leaders at all levels, especially my parents - those who gave birth to me, worked hard to raise me, and ignited the flame of faith and determination in me; and Mr. Tran Van Nga - a young teacher who guided and always stood by me in my studies and in life."
