Journalist Tran Dang Tuan explains the story of "failing to run for office"

At 8:00 p.m. on April 16, one day after learning that he had been removed from the list of candidates for the National Assembly, journalist Tran Dang Tuan posted some comments on his personal Facebook page about the issue.

I learned through the press that the 3rd Consultative Conference organized by the Hanoi Fatherland Front did not include most of the self-nominated individuals in the list of candidates for the 14th National Assembly. There are some of them that I highly appreciate and respect. I was also among the candidates who were not selected.

I do not comment, nor do I care about the reasons and motives that led the majority of the 83 people attending this meeting to not support my candidacy. According to the current election procedures, they have the right to do so. They also have a responsibility to society and to the voters when they use this right. That is their business.

I have prepared my own plan in case of election, which in short is to contribute my small part to promoting and monitoring the following areas: 1- Food safety. 2- Effective use of resources to support the poor and poor areas. 3- Protecting the rights of individuals and communities affected or disadvantaged in the process of socio-economic development fluctuations. 4- A broader legal and practical corridor for people's initiatives and self-management, through the forms of healthy civil society. 5- A greater role for the press and media in society.

With this negotiation result, personally, I will have a less stressful life. But I somewhat regret that I do not have the conditions that the status of a National Assembly representative brings to carry out even a part of the work as mentioned above, as well as participate in other work for the common interests of all people, including me.

However, I am not surprised or upset at all. As I have shared: I have many other things to do and many other ways to contribute as a citizen. I write this status to sincerely thank all voters in my residence and workplace who have supported me. Sincerely thank the tens of thousands of people who have supported me when meeting me in person or via social networks. Thank you to my press colleagues who have paid much attention to my candidacy. Thank you to the minority of members of the 3rd Consultative Conference who have trusted me. I deeply appreciate this support from you and everyone.
