Temple was robbed of 200 million VND by thieves during a night of heavy rain and floods

(Baonghean.vn) - Taking advantage of the heavy rain, thieves broke into a pagoda, broke the safe and stole over 200 million VND.

On the afternoon of October 18, Mr. Nguyen Dinh Dung - Chairman of Nghi Long Commune People's Committee, Nghi Loc District confirmed that on the night of October 15, a theft of money occurred at Hong Phuc Pagoda in the commune.

Mr. Dung said: at around 7:30 pm on October 16, he received a phone call from Venerable Thich Chau Phong - abbot of Hong Phuc pagoda, reporting that the pagoda had just been broken into by thieves who broke the safe and stole the money inside. Upon receiving the news, the commune police arrived at the scene to make a record of the initial statements and report the incident to Nghi Loc district police.

Accordingly, on the afternoon of October 15, after finishing the ceremony, Venerable Thich Chau Phong left the temple to perform a ceremony for Buddhists. That night it rained heavily, the temple had 2 young monks and 1 lay person staying. After checking security at 11pm, seeing no problems, everyone went to rest.

On the afternoon of October 16, Venerable Thich Chau Phong returned to the pagoda and discovered that his room had had its window broken by a thief who had broken into the room and broken into the safe. At the scene, the authorities found three bars of the window broken; the front of the safe had been broken. A wrench was left at the scene. The pagoda said that the amount of money stolen from the safe was over 200 million VND.

According to the temple, the monks' room in the monks' house has a soundproofing system. The yard has a corrugated iron roof, which makes noise when it rains heavily. Meanwhile, everyone else is fast asleep after a hard day's work.

The incident is being investigated by the authorities.
