American economist: Sanctions against Russia will not achieve their goals
(Baonghean.vn) - American economist Jeffrey Sachs said in an interview with Spiegel magazine that sanctions against Russia will not achieve their intended goals but will only cause negative consequences for the West.
The expert stressed that he did not believe that the restrictions imposed on Moscow would be effective. “I expect the situation to develop differently: there will be significant negative consequences for the economies of the rest of the world, except for Russia,” Mr. Sachs said.

American economistThis expert sees sanctions as a signature tool of US foreign policy, and despite their frequent use, restrictions rarely work. As examples, he cites sanctions against Iran, North Korea, and Venezuela, which, according to this expert, "have failed miserably."
The expert explained: "We cannot change the regime there, and now we want to bring a much larger country to its knees. Russia is a giant country, and in addition, it possesses 1,600 nuclear warheads. Bringing them to their knees is simply unrealistic, an impossible idea. I do not know what is in the minds of those who came up with that idea." He also expressed the view that Russia "will easily overcome" the consequences caused by the restrictions./.
