On July 11, the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported that North Korean leader Kim Jong-un inspected the Taegyong seaweed processing plant in Pyongyang and urged workers there to strive to increase the production of purple seaweed and other products.

The KCNA report, cited by South Korea's Yonhap news agency, also stated that Kim Jong-un issued on-the-spot instructions but did not specify when the visit took place.
KCNA also reported that Kim Jong-un expressed satisfaction at seeing the factory process a variety of seaweed products and other food items, and said that the factory needs to diversify its products and increase the output of processed purple seaweed due to high demand from the public.
