It is called a Floating Nuclear Power Plant because it is a ship carrying nuclear reactors.

The Akademik Lomonosov will be towed from St Petersburg to Murmansk, where its reactors will be refuelled. The “floating nuclear power plant” is expected to be operational next year in the Chukotka region in Russia’s far northeast.

With a capacity of up to 70 MW, this plant can provide electricity to a city with a population of 200,000 people, a seaport or offshore oil and gas platforms. This is considered an energy solution for remote areas or places with energy needs for a certain period of time. The operating time of this floating nuclear power plant is about 40 years.
