Con Cuong farmers build their own animal feed production factory
(Baonghean.vn) -To ensure clean livestock sources, reduce costs, and increase profits, farmers in Con Cuong district invest hundreds of millions of dong in self-producing livestock feed production lines.
Mr. Nguyen Duc Hai's family in Block 8, Con Cuong town has been involved in livestock farming for nearly 10 years with a scale of over 100 pigs/batch, 1,000 chickens and hundreds of quails.
To ensure a clean food source for livestock, Mr. Hai previously used mixed foods such as corn bran, green vegetables, banana trees, etc., which was both time-consuming and did not ensure nutrition.
In early 2017, Mr. Hai invested over 200 million VND to build a factory and buy a self-manufacturing animal feed system including: grinder, mixer, pellet extruder and dryer.

Raw materials for animal feed production are made from locally available agricultural by-products such as corn, rice bran, soybeans, and trash fish, which are crushed, then put into a machine to cook, pressed into pellets, and then dried.
In fact, the cost of self-producing feed is about 8,500 - 9,000 VND/kg, about 3,000 VND/kg lower than industrial feed.
"Homemade dried food can be used for 2-3 months. Pigs and chickens grow quickly, have good resistance, and the meat quality is delicious, so it is favored by traders," Mr. Hai shared.

Using nutritious feed has brought about clear results in animal husbandry, especially for hybrid wild boars. His family produces two batches a year, each batch has 50-60 pigs; the average weight is 25-30 kg/pig. With an average price of 100,000 VND/kg, Mr. Hai has an income of over 250 million VND.
In addition to serving his family's livestock, Mr. Hai plans to expand the production model to provide food for livestock farmers in the area so that people can reduce costs, and more importantly, create goods that ensure food hygiene and safety.
