"On the two images I took last night and this morning, two old Soviet satellites "Cosmos-1860" and "Kosmos-1412" are clearly visible. These devices operate on nuclear reactors," the astronomer wrote on Twitter.

The US-A series of 33 Soviet marine reconnaissance satellites were launched between 1965 and 1988. Each device was equipped with a reactor, which was sent to high Earth orbit after its life to reduce the risk. The use of a nuclear reactor was due to insufficient solar energy, since the main component of the satellite was radar.

In Western countries, this series of satellites is called RORSAT (Radar Ocean Reconnaissance Satellite).
