White House predicts Ukraine's fate according to Korean peninsula scenario
(Baonghean.vn) - Politico quoted sources as saying that US officials are planning for the possibility that the Russia-Ukraine war will turn into a frozen conflict lasting for years - perhaps decades - and join the ranks of similar protracted confrontations on the Korean peninsula.

According to the publication, Washington is ready for the option of freezing the Ukrainian conflict for many years, similar to the situation on the Korean Peninsula. In particular, the prospect of establishing new borders is being discussed, which, although not corresponding to the official ones, Moscow and Kiev would agree not to violate.
The newspaper noted that such forecasts from the White House are considered the most realistic due to concerns that the announced Ukrainian counteroffensive will not be successful. In this regard, freezing the conflict in the future would mean a radical cut in Washington's spending on military assistance to Kiev.
Earlier, Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Mark Milley expressed skepticism about the possibility of ending the conflict in Ukraine this year. He emphasized that it would be very difficult for both Moscow and Kiev to achieve their political goals.
In another development, Ukrainian presidential adviser Vladyslav Vlasiuk said his country wants its allies to be tougher in imposing sanctions on Russia, including measures targeting banks that provide financial services to active-duty soldiers.
Mr. Vlasiuk also urged allies not to worry that imposing sanctions could push some countries closer to Russia, insisting that such concerns were overblown. “We are grateful for all the support that Ukraine has received from our allies, and we have seen some positive signs as the latest package of sanctions is being considered. But allies need to be bolder and avoid the fear that tightening sanctions will push countries closer to Russia,” the Ukrainian presidential adviser stressed.
Mr. Vlasiuk called on allies to tighten sanctions targeting the banking sector, naming three financial institutions: Gazprombank, Tinkoff Bank and Rosselkhozbank./.
