The King of Thailand passed away

King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand has just breathed his last at the age of 88.

Bhumibol Adulyadej, the world's longest-reigning monarch, died in hospital at 3:52 p.m. (0852 GMT) today, a palace statement said.

"Our beloved King passed away peacefully at Siriraj Hospital," Reuters quoted the statement as saying, without giving a cause.

His son and heir, Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn, 63, is expected to become Thailand's new king.
