Composer Nguyen Duc Toan passed away on the morning of October 7th at his home in Hanoi, at the age of 87.

Mr. Nguyen Duc Toan was born in 1929 in Hanoi. He was a former army officer with the rank of Colonel in the Vietnam People's Army and was awarded the Third-Class Independence Medal by the State. In 2000, he received the Ho Chi Minh Prize for Literature and Art.
Throughout his career, he achieved success in both music and painting. Friends always remember him as a straightforward person, diligently and wholeheartedly dedicated to artistic creation.
The late composer left a lasting impression with many memorable songs such as: "My Homeland in the Central Highlands," "Hanoi, a Heart of Pink," "Gratitude to Sister Vo Thi Sau," "Afternoon on the Harbor," "My Love, the Sea," "Come Visit My Homeland," etc. His compositions have been performed by many generations of singers, including famous names like Thai Thanh, Ngoc Tan, and Trong Tan. He wrote more than 100 musical works.
When he wasn't composing music, he painted, especially in the lacquer painting style, with a free-flowing, poetic flair. Nguyen Duc Toan inherited his artistic talent from his father.Mr. Nguyen Duc Thuc, a famous sculptor and painter from Hanoi.
