Japanese Musician: Vu Cat Tuong's 'Rain Traces' is Similar to My Composition

Marika Takeuchi - author of "Rain in the Park" - is working with lawyers to find appropriate solutions if Vu Cat Tuong is found to have violated copyright.

On the afternoon of August 15, on her personal page, Marika Takeuchi - a Japanese artist - shared that she was informed by fans that Vu Cat Tuong's song "Vet mua" sounded similar to her song "Rain in the Park".

"I think Rain Trace is a great song, the singer has a beautiful voice. However, this song sounds exactly like Rain in The Park, from the melody, chord progression, intro, beat," Marika said.

Marika Takeuchi confirmed that she has not received any permission to use the song from Vu Cat Tuong. Marika said: "I have all the legal documents confirming my intellectual property rights related to Rain in the Park. I am the only copyright holder registered with the US copyright protection agency. As for Vu Cat Tuong, I know very little about her and currently cannot confirm whether she intentionally violated my copyright or not. I will learn more and discuss further with my lawyer."

The Japanese artist shared that she felt uncomfortable listening to the two songs because "it's okay if they sound a little similar, but if they sound exactly the same, it's not good at all."

"I put so much love and energy into each of my creations. I've never been in a situation like this before. Stealing other people's work is unacceptable and very annoying," she said.
