Prediction: In the year of the Dragon 2012, many children will be born.

According to Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Thong, Director of the Center for Reproductive Health Care (HCMC): "The concept of choosing to give birth in a "good year" is a tradition of East Asians, not just Vietnamese.

In years considered “bad”, the number of women giving birth decreased significantly and vice versa. Most recently, the year of the tiger (2010), many people “avoided” it, so the number of births that hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City received was only over 90 thousand cases. In the year of the cat, which was considered better, the number of births jumped to 110 thousand cases. Nham Thin 2012 is considered very good by the people, the number of births will certainly be much higher. In fact, many couples “held back” and waited for the year of the dragon to give birth.

Similarly, according to Dr. Nguyen Van Truong, Director of Hung Vuong Obstetrics Hospital (HCMC), in the year of the Tiger, the hospital only received more than 30,000 births. By the beginning of November, the number of new births was 38,000. "Our hospital has calculated that in the year of the Dragon 2012, the number of women giving birth will be very high," said Dr. Truong.

Dr. Nguyen Hoang Tuan (Tu Du Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City) said: “Since the middle of the year of the Cat, many couples have come to the doctor’s office and the obstetrics hospital to get advice on how to prepare for childbirth in the year of the dragon. Many couples who have been planning for a long time by using IUDs have also come to the hospital to remove the IUDs in preparation for conception and childbirth; couples who are having children for the first time are also eager to “hunt” for dragons.

Up to now, there are many women who are in their third or fourth month of pregnancy. Doctor Tuan said that the tradition of giving birth in the year of the dragon is a reality, it is difficult to force people to change, so hospitals must prepare mentally and professionally to meet that demand.
