Sentenced to prison for burning 2 sugarcane fields and 2 motorbikes of neighbors

On December 25, Tan Ky District People's Court opened a criminal trial against defendant Truong Van Nhat (born in 1988, residing in Dong Nang hamlet, Ha Son commune, Quy Hop district) for the crime of property destruction.
According to the indictment, at around 10:00 a.m. on October 30, 2018, after a drinking party at home, Nhat took a sharp knife and two lighters to the hill area bordering Ha Son commune (Quy Hop) and Tan Xuan commune (Tan Ky) to look for bees to sting.
When going to the sugarcane field of Ms. Hoang Thi Khanh's family (living in Hoang Xuan hamlet, Tan Xuan commune), Nhat remembered 3 days ago, when he went to graze the cows here, he was scolded for letting the cows eat the sugarcane.
To vent his anger, Nhat went into the sugarcane field, lit a fire and ran away. The fire spread to two adjacent sugarcane fields of Mr. Tran Tien Dung and Ms. Truong Thi Thuat, both living in Hoang Xuan hamlet, Tan Xuan commune.
After driving a short distance, Nhat saw two motorbikes parked close together on the side of the road, with no one watching. Nhat used a knife to pry open the plastic cover, stole two batteries and two headlights, and set them on fire. Seeing the fire raging, Nhat ran home.
At 8:00 p.m. the same day, realizing that his actions were illegal, Nhat went to Tan Ky District Police to surrender.
The Tan Ky District People's Committee's Valuation Council concluded that the total value of the property that Nhat destroyed was more than 24 million VND. Therefore, the Council sentenced Truong Van Nhat to 15 months in prison.
