Latest Bahamas vs Costa Rica team information

The hosts will be without Andre Roberts for Sunday's game after the midfielder was forced off just 17 minutes after coming on in the 6-0 defeat to Grenada.

In that context, Kevin Thomas, Lance Carroll and William Bayles can continue to take on the three-man midfield, and the squad is likely to have changes after the recent embarrassing defeat.

On the Costa Rica side, defender Jeyland Mitchell may be absent due to an injury suffered in a friendly match with Catalunya more than a week ago.

Yeison Molina could be selected to start in place of Mitchell, partnering Francisco Calvo in central defence, while Joseph Mora and Fernan Faerron are likely to continue on the flanks.

Latest football prediction Bahamas vs Costa Rica

The Bahamas entered CONCACAF qualifying with the goal of qualifying for the World Cup for the first time in their history, but that dream was soon over.

They were given a bye into the second qualifying round as the 28th-ranked team from CONCACAF according to the FIFA rankings, ranked 202nd in the world – just six places above the Turks and Caicos Islands, who had to play in the first qualifying round.

Placed in Group B alongside Saint Kitts and Nevis, Grenada, Trinidad & Tobago and Costa Rica, Bahamas lost all three of their opening matches, falling to the bottom of the group and officially no longer having a chance to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.

Coach Nesley Jean's side started with a 7-1 defeat to Trinidad & Tobago, followed by a 1-0 defeat to Saint Kitts and Nevis in their second match, and a 6-0 thrashing by Grenada in their third. With just one game remaining, they are four points behind second-placed Trinidad & Tobago, meaning they are already out of the group.

Despite their chances of qualifying being over, the Bahamas are still hoping to avoid a disastrous campaign that has seen them lose four games in a row. However, their biggest test awaits them next Sunday.

Costa Rica are expected to top Group B, and they are leading with two wins from two – beating Saint Kitts and Nevis 4-0 and overcoming Grenada 3-0.

Coach Gustavo Alfaro, who led the team in those two victories, has left the hot seat. Claudio Vivas took over on an interim basis before Miguel Herrera was officially appointed earlier this year.

Herrera has had four games in charge of the national team, with two wins and two losses – however, both defeats came in friendlies against the USA and Catalunya, while in official matches he remains unbeaten.

Returning to CONCACAF World Cup qualifying for the first time since June 2024, Costa Rica will now focus on a win over the Bahamas, with just three more points from their final two games enough to secure a top-two finish.
