Latest Tottenham vs Frankfurt team information

Spurs will continue to be without Dejan Kulusevski and Kevin Danso for the next few weeks, which could see them miss both legs of this tie, while Radu Dragusin is out for the rest of the season with an ACL injury.

Timo Werner will not be able to face his hometown club, as he is not included in Spurs' Europa League squad, but Richarlison could get some minutes after returning from injury over the weekend.

Rodrigo Bentancur is back from suspension which ruled him out of the second leg against AZ, while Postecoglou wanted to keep injury-prone pair Micky van den Ven and Destiny Udogie on the bench over the weekend ahead of this game.

Frankfurt will have Nnamdi Collins back from European suspension in defence, but in goal, Kaua Santos could have to continue due to injury to Kevin Trapp, and Jens Grahl is not registered.

Rasmus' brother Oscar Hojlund and Junior Dina Ebimbe will also be absent as they are not registered, while Ansgar Knauff and Elye Wahi are currently injured, but Croatian Igor Matanovic returned over the weekend after a two-month absence.

Young talent Can Uzun could return after recovering from illness, but veteran defender Timothy Chandler is still nursing a long-term hamstring injury.

Latest football commentary Tottenham vs Frankfurt

It has not been an easy week for Postecoglou, who has faced questions over his future, seen VAR deny a potential point against Chelsea, and heard Spurs fans boo his substitutes at Stamford Bridge.

Spurs were losing 1-0, but after substituting Pape Sarr and being booed from the away end, the midfielder scored but was disallowed for a foul, and Postecoglou appeared to put his hand to his ear as if to listen to the boos, which he strongly denied.

A narrow 3-1 win over now-relegated Southampton on Sunday will do little to improve the poor relationship between the two sides, but an impressive performance and a good result in the first leg will certainly help improve the situation.

The positive first-leg performance was certainly not seen in the last-16 tie, when Spurs were poor away at AZ Alkmaar and were lucky to only lose by a single goal, but they made amends with a 3-1 home win to book their place in the quarter-finals.

Spurs had an impressive run in the UEL group stage, finishing fourth, and are now third-placed favourites to win the competition, but before they reach the final they will have to overcome two tough challenges, as Lazio will await the winner of this tie if they overcome Bodo/Glimt.

It is the first time the hosts have reached the European quarter-finals since 2019 when they eliminated Manchester City on away goals en route to the final after one of the most dramatic second legs in Champions League history.

However, the first-leg win in that tie remains their only quarter-final success in 13 attempts, so something has to change here if they are to maintain their chances this season.

Spurs met Frankfurt in the 2022-23 Champions League group stage, but the only other knockout tie between the two sides was in the 1981-82 Cup Winners' Cup quarter-finals, when the English side won 3-2 on aggregate.

For Frankfurt, it is a path they have trodden before, as this is their third Europa League quarter-final in six years.

A worrying sign for Spurs is that Frankfurt have never won the first leg in their previous two meetings, but they have continued to progress, famously winning at the Nou Camp en route to winning the title in 2022.

This is their league, with just two defeats in 23 UEL games, many of which came in the 2021-22 season when Oliver Glasner led them to continental glory, but the current team is also capable of going all the way to the end.

Dino Toppmoller's men beat Ajax 6-1 on aggregate in the last 16 after finishing fifth in their group, but the reality is they have underperformed since Omar Marmoush left to join Man City in January.

The visitors have won just five of their last 13 games, and lost again last weekend, losing 2-0 at Werder Bremen, but they still retain third place in the Bundesliga despite this result.
