Accepted to carry drugs while herding buffalo

(Baonghean.vn)- While herding buffalo, Gia Ra Long received a phone call to hire him to transport drugs. With the promise of receiving 2 million VND as payment, Long accepted and was arrested by the police.

On August 17, Nghe An Provincial People's Court opened a first-instance criminal trial of Gia Ra Long (born 1978), residing in Na Ngoi commune (Ky Son) for the crime of "Illegal drug trafficking".

According to the investigation agency's documents, at noon on February 24, 2020, when Gia Ra Long was herding buffalo, a Mong man called and said: "There is a package of "goods" that needs to be delivered to a customer named Kha in Khe Nan village, Chieu Luu commune. If he agrees to do it, he will receive 2 million VND in wages." Long agreed and set a time and place for delivery.

Then, Long went to get drugs from a man who called himself Po. Po told him to take the drugs to deliver to the customer and then take 30 million VND back.

While Long was preparing to deliver the goods, he was discovered and arrested by Ky Son District Police, and the evidence seized was 59.5 grams of drugs.

In court, Long said he knew the package was drugs but still agreed to do it because of greed.

The defendant presented his difficult circumstances and being an ethnic minority to request a reduced sentence.

Considering the case as a whole, the panel sentenced Gia Ra Long to 15 years in prison.
