(Baonghean.vn) - Bien and Xuan colluded to trick and sell a girl to China. When he learned that the "item" that his accomplice brought from Vietnam to China to sell was his cousin, Xuan still did not stop...

On July 9, Nghe An Provincial People's Court opened a first-instance criminal trial to try defendants Sam Van Bien (born 1984) and Lang Thi Xuan (born 1983), both residing in Quang Phong commune, Que Phong district, for the crime ofi “Human Trafficking”.

The case file shows that around the beginning of 2014, Sam Van Bien went to China to do business and met Lang Thi Xuan. Knowing the demand for wives from Chinese men, the two sides agreed that Bien would return to Vietnam to find someone to sell to Xuan. The money earned would be split in half.

Around March 2014, Bien met a fellow countryman, Ms. Lang Thi Th. (born in 1982) in Vinh city. Bien invited Ms. Th. to work in China with a high salary, but this girl refused. After that, Bien called many times to persuade her and promised to pay Ms. Th. 50 million VND for 3 months, after which she would be allowed to return to Vietnam. Hearing that, Ms. Th. agreed.

After that, Bien picked up and took Ms. Th. across the border to China through a small border crossing. When they arrived at a Chinese bus station, Bien called Xuan to pick her up.

When they met, Xuan realized that the person Bien had brought over was her cousin. However, this woman was still determined to carry out her plan to sell people. After that, Xuan brought Th. to her house and asked her father-in-law to sell her to a local man to marry for 50,000 yuan (equivalent to 150 million VND).

Then Xuan asked someone to bring 40 million VND to Ms. Th's father, Sam Van Bien benefited from 40 million VND.

Ms. Th. had to be the wife of a Chinese man for about 3 years before fleeing back to Vietnam. On January 22, 2021, the victim filed a complaint against the subjects' criminal acts to the police.

At the trial, the two defendants admitted to human trafficking. Defendant Bien confessed that out of greed, he colluded with Xuan to trick people into being sold in China.

Defendant Xuan stated that he did not know at first that the victim was his cousin because when he reported the news, Bien only said “there was a girl”. When he went to China, he discovered that it was his cousin, but he still sold her because he “wanted her to have some money to return home”.

After considering the aggravating and mitigating circumstances of the case, the panel sentenced defendant Sam Van Bien to 6 years in prison and Lang Thi Xuan to 5 years in prison for the crime of Human Trafficking.

The court ordered the two defendants to jointly compensate the victim 60 million VND for mental damage.
