Le Loi ward police focused on verification, collected documents and identified Nguyen Van Tung, a waiter at Ms. Lien's restaurant, as the suspect. On the afternoon of June 30, while Tung was drinking while on vacation in Cua Lo town, the police arrested him.
At the investigation agency, Tung admitted to being the perpetrator of the theft. He stated that at 9am on June 28, he borrowed Ms. Lien's scooter to buy a package of coffee. When he drove to Nguyen Thai Hoc Street, when he opened the trunk, he discovered a bag of 20 million VND in cash, so he "switched" 12 million VND and put it in his pocket, leaving the rest intact. After returning the motorbike to his owner, Tung asked for leave from work because he was tired, but in reality, he wanted to spend the stolen money.
Taking a bus to Cua Lo town, Tung lent his close friend 4 million VND, and spent the rest on personal expenses.
"In addition to the theft of 12 million VND on June 28, Tung also confessed to having previously committed two thefts of Ms. Lien's money, totaling 10 million VND," Major Duc informed.
Police records show that Tung dropped out of school in 7th grade and was addicted to video games. He had been working as a waiter at a beer bar for a short time before committing the crime.
