A United Airlines employee was accused of stealing $130,000 worth of jewelry from a passenger earlier this month at Denver International Airport.

According to the Denver Attorney’s Office, the perpetrator is Rafael Magana, 42, a resident of Colorado, USA. He stole $130,000 worth of jewelry from passengers, the most expensive of which were a pair of diamond earrings worth $35,000 and a pearl bracelet worth $35,000, during a flight from Aspen, Colorado to Denver.

Security cameras recorded that Magana stole the jewelry box and intentionally wrapped it in white paper, then went to a cafe near the airport and placed the jewelry box in a brown paper bag. Magana then returned to the airport gate and deposited the stolen items at the customer service counter. A few days later, the police contacted Magana about the missing jewelry. After questioning, he was forced to reveal where the items were hidden.

In a statement, United Airlines said: "We have very high standards for our employees and have zero tolerance for theft. The airline is cooperating with the Denver police investigation and will terminate the employee who acted inappropriately."
