Two days ago, pregnant woman Phan Thi Thu Thuy (30 years old, residing in Vinh Linh district, Quang Tri) was admitted to Quang Tri province general hospital in a state of hemorrhage and blood dysfunction.
Doctor Truong Xuan Nhuan, Deputy Director of Quang Tri General Hospital, said that at that time the patient's condition was very serious, requiring quick treatment, surgery and timely blood transfusion to overcome the critical stage. The patient needed a transfusion of AB blood, a rare blood type so very few people donated.
To save the patient in time, Dr. Nhuan called on hospital staff to donate blood. Ms. Vo Thi Hong Yen, an officer of the organization department, and Mr. Dinh Thanh An, a hospital staff, both with blood type AB, volunteered to donate. Ms. Yen then also persuaded her husband to donate blood to help this pregnant woman.
Thanks to timely blood transfusion, the patient gradually recovered from the critical stage and blood function returned to near the allowable limit. The patient is being monitored and cared for in the Emergency and Intensive Care Department.
Quang Tri General Hospital established a voluntary blood donation group 10 years ago, with 50-70 members who are officers and employees. On average, this group donates 40 units of blood each year, saving the lives of many patients.
